[최우수상] <건설 및 환경공학과 여화수 교수님>주기적으로 문 닫는 연구실 저희는 주기적으로 "문을 닫는" 연구실입니다. 바로 여름에 1번, 겨울에 1번 각각 약 열흘간의 휴가를 갖는건데요. 중요한 학회 제출이 끝나는 여름, 그리고 한해를 마무리하는 연말을 포함해 연구실을 shutdown하는 제도입니다. 덕분에 가족들 또는 친구들이 대부분 휴가를 떠나는 기간에, 함께 시간을 보낼 수 있다는 장점이 있습니다. 해당 기간 동안 저희 연구실 사람들은 멀리 여행을 떠나거나, 미뤄둔 자기계발을 하는 등 몸도 마음도 충분한 휴식을 가집니다. 특히 이 제도는 먼 타지로 떠나오며 쉽사리 가족들을 만나기 어려운 연구실 내 외국인 학생들에게 큰 도움이 되고 있습니다. 외국인 학생들이 많은 KAIST의 특성상, 한국의 연휴 기간이 되면 학교에 혼자 남게 되는 외국인 학생들이 많은데요. 충분한 기간 동안 휴가를 주시는 교수님 덕분에, 저희 연구실 외국인 학생들은 타지에 남아 외로움을 느끼지 않게끔 배려받고 있습니다 일반적인 회사나 연구실의 경우, 휴가 일수가 충분하더라도 자유롭게 긴 기간 동안 휴가를 사용하기에 눈치 보이는 경우가 있을 수 있는데요. 교수님께서 가장 적극적으로 해당 기간에 출근하지 않고 쉬게끔 장려하셔서, 편안한 마음으로 휴가를 다녀올 수 있습니다. 게다가 해당 기간 이외에도 추가적으로 주어지는 휴가 일수가 충분하여, 몸 상태가 좋지 않거나, 개인적인 일정을 소화해야 하는 경우에도 자유로운 분위기에서 휴가를 사용하고 있습니다 연구를 잘 하는 것도 좋지만, 잘 쉬고 노는 것도 덕목이라고 말씀해주시는 저희 교수님! 덕분에 건강하고 편하게 연구에 몰입할 수 있게 돼서 항상 감사드리는 마음에 저희 교수님을 자랑합니다

Prof. Yeo hosted the Korea-US IRES Program sponsored by NRF. This program is a reverse version of the NSF IRES Program, which took place in the summers of 2022 and 2023 at KAIST. Prof. K.C. Choi from Texas A&M served as the partner PI. Fourteen selected students from Korea, along with Prof. Yeo, visited TTI and Texas A&M in the United States from January 24th to February 2nd to learn and experience AI Mobility.

AIxMobility Lab members attended the KKHTCNN conference in Pattaya, Thailand, from November 23rd to 25th. It is nice to be in the warm weather while the cold hits the Korean Peninsula!

Yeeun (Postdoc,), Hye-young, Hwapyeon, Hyunsoo and Prof. Yeo attended ITSC 2023 in Bilbao, Spain (9-24-9/28) to present the following papers: -"Prioritized Phase Split Optimization for Coordinated Traffic Signal Control in Urban Network Using Deep Reinforcement Learning" -"A Hybrid Model for Real-Time Traffic Prediction with Augmented Historical Data using Traffic Simulation"

Our lab members attended the Korean Society of Transportation & Korea Planning Association joint conference in Busan on October 11~12, and Tengfeng Lin (Ph.D. candidate) won the Best Paper Award with his paper "Evaluation of Pedestrian's Potential Risk at Non-Signalized Intersections Based on Predicted Relative Time-To-Collision Using Deep Learning Trajectory Prediction Method". Congrats!

Dr. Donghoun Lee (Advisor: Prof. Hwasoo, Yeo) has been appointed as an assistant professor at the College of Computing and Informatics, Department of Artificial Intelligence, Sejong University. Congratulations on his appointment!

Prof. Yeo visited TNO to give a talk on 'Mobility Challenges in Korea and AI-based Mobility Digital Twin Solutions' in the Netherlands

Jihu and Hyeyoung from our lab participated in TRAIL's 'Network Traffic Flow Operations, Management and AI' course. TRAIL is the Netherlands Research School on Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics. TRAIL trains Ph.D. candidates and performs scientific and applied scientific research in the fields of mobility, transport, logistics, traffic, infrastructure and transport systems.

Graduate students from the United States and Korea teamed up to conduct research at KAIST for 3 weeks on AI & Simulation. Professor Kunhee Choi, Prof. Yunlong Zhang from Texas A&M, Professor Inhi Kim and Prof. Hwasoo Yeo from KAIST are the organizers of the program.

Prof. Yeo attends the 6th China-Korea Joint Seminar on Sustainable Transportation Systems and International Conference on Transport and Environment in Xi'an, China
